FCSE 4400:  FAMILY & CONSUMER SCIENCES METHODS FOR TEACHING 2.

Selecting teaching strategies and instructional materials based on theories of learning and hunan development that reflect a professional philosophy of family and consumer sciences is a key learning outcome of FCSE 4400. The content of the course can be applied to formal and non-formal educational settings with diverse audiences. For instruction to be successful, it must engage the learner (Hitch & Youatt, 2002, p. 171). Strategies that focus on learner participation are likely to increase involvement in learning and decrease learner distraction (Hitch & Youatt, 2002, p. 171). Specifically, action-oriented strategies require learners to interact or experience information and use it in meaningful ways. In this course a variety of research-based teaching strategies will be presented to the learner with opportunity to create useable learning plans which can be implemented into the FCS classroom or other educational setting.
