At the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) National Meeting (VISION 2013), I received the Family and Consumer Sciences Education Association (FCSEA) and Goodheart-Willcox Publishing Educator of the Year Award. To read an article published in the Herald Journal, click on the picture to the left. I was awarded the crystal apple (pictured) by Mr. John F. Flanagan, President of Goodheart-Willcox Publishing. It is truly an honor to be recognized for the work that I am so passionate about. Thank you!
This fall I was invited to be a featured speaker at the Downtown Project, Stitch Factory and Zappos Speaker Series. The third week of every month, the Stitch Factory ( a fashion incubator in Las Vegas, NV) "brings together passionate individuals to share ideas, network, and inspire for the Behind the Seams Speaker Series". The series brings in leaders in the fashion industry from across the country. To view my TED-style talk, click on the picture located to the left. The title of the talk was "Education Couture: Transforming Teaching and Learning with Design". Enjoy! Pictured below is the collection that I featured in the talk designed and created by a Utah State University student, Sarah Geer (graduated December 2013). The collection showcases connections between the content areas associated with Family and Consumer Sciences Education and Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). The collection is made from recycled and/or found materials.
