PART FiVE: DRESS & THE FUTURE

The final section of the class focuses on exploring future dress. Whether students predict what they are going to wear in the future to meet their personal and professional goals, or exploring what the industry proposes for the future, this section brings closure to the exploration of dress. At the end of the course, students conclude that until taking the course they didn't realize how important it is to not judge people by what they are wearing because there are lots of reasons why individuals wear certain dress practices. A final, edited version of the research portfolio is submitted for review based on critical thinking indicators. Students are given the opportunity to share their final portfolio with the class. Samples of student work are provided below. To reflect on dress across the lifespan, students complete a reflective assignment focusing on their personal dress history and future dress practices. The assessment is called "You Be the Model". Each student creates a timeline of their dress choosing six time periods (three from the past and three from future). Overall, students enjoy the process of exploring dress across the ages and what will be done in the future.
