WEEK ONE INTRODUCTION.

In preparation to become a licensed Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher, students need to develop their professional teaching philosophy that can be used guide future professional practice.  This section of the course introduces pre-service teachers to the wide variety of research-based strategies and techniques that can be used in their professional practice and serve as a foundation for the development of a philosophy of teaching.  Readings, videos, and presentations are provided to begin the process of exploration.   On the first day of class, students are given the materials for the clinical observation experience that they complete during the same semester as Methods 2.  The field experience requires students to spend 30 hours at a middle school or high school in the area to see best practices in action and experience teaching firsthand.

For this course module, students will read Chapter 1:  Basic Needs in The Third Teacher:  79 Ways You Can Use Design to Transform Teaching and Learning by Third Teacher Plus and Cannon Design.  Basic human needs are core to the content areas of family and consumer sciences and our curriculum exposes students to strategies for improving everyday life related to such needs.
